It’s about time (potw #24)
It’s been a while since I posted a picture of the week; I simply haven’t been taking many photographs lately. I haven’t been doing much of anything at all, to be honest. But I’ve just come back from a week in Hue, in central Vietnam, where I managed to get up off my arse and take some pictures. This shot was taken in Dong Ba market. More Hue pictures coming soon.

Great photo. Welcome back!! I’m looking foward to your new photos.
Excellent portrait.. I look forward to more 🙂
Hey Jon, nice shot. I forgot you were British but that ‘arse’ reminded me! lol. Just read your About to school myself – living the dream man 🙂 I’m doing similar, but just finding ways to perma-travel instead of teaching at the mo. Thinking of teaching in Japan in future tho, just for all the camera and photography goodness there too. Yet to visit Vietnam! Like your stuff anyway, will keep an eye out for those Hue shots.
Thanks. It doesn’t always feel like living the dream – I still have to pay the rent and do the ironing – but I know I’m lucky to be here.
So, so striking! Wonderful job!

it’s wonderful 🙂
Another great pic. I’d love to know how you get shots this vivid – what settings do you use to get the great sense of depth?
I try not to write too much about the technical side of things – I’m no expert and I like to let the pictures do the talking. But since you asked nicely: this was shot at f/2.0 for a shallow depth of field. The vivid colours come from some tweaking in Lightroom – I tend to boost contrast using the tone curve and lower the saturation.
