Hanoi street portraits (#1)

hanoi-street-portrait-2

Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve been taking some simple, uncrowded, black and white portrait photographs in the streets near my home in Hanoi, using an 85mm lens. Having just used my 35mm lens for more than a year, it’s refreshing to be doing something a little different. My camera feels new again.

I love the 85mm focal length. I have a Canon 85 F1.2 and the magical Fuji 56mm F1.2 which is 85mm equivalent. They are excellent portrait lenses but quite versatile too. I was out today and took 2 lenses, the Fuji 23 (35)mm and the 56(85)mm. They will see me through a day easily.

Sounds like a great combination, Andrew. I’ve been thinking that a 35mm and an 85mm might be the only lenses I really need – but I’m not quite ready to give up my standard zoom.
