The Sandwich Lady and other pictures

Late December and early January in Saigon.  Looking at these pictures again, I wish – not for the first time – that my Vietnamese was better, so that I could write a little about these people and their stories.

    Great shots …love Saigon.
What are you using for these shots …not that it matters but just interested. Looks like Canon and some look like the 50 1.2
    Great work …John

You obviously know your cameras and lenses, because you’re very close. I use an old Canon 5D, and several of these shots were taken with a 50mm lens, but the 1.4, not the 1.2 (way out of my price range).

Your connection w/these people, even if momentary, clearly shows through these photos. Really fantastic set . ..

He was such a nice guy, a real eccentric. Probably the only person to stop me on the street and ask to have his picture taken.

So glad that the WordPress editors freshly pressed your blog. I think I’ve found a new favorite. Again, really vibrant portraits and city shots. When I lived in Southeast Asia in 2004, I didn’t make it to Saigon (only Hanoi). You make me want to return.

    Thanks,
    Cheri

Even though you did not share their stories through words, you shared them through your lenses. it seems that people open up to you and your camera – a wonderful gift and a testament to the skill of the photographer. Thank you!

I have recently discovered your photo blog and you have quickly become one of my favorite photographers on the web. Vietnam changed my life as a photographer and now I am inspired to return to SE Asia because of your amazing work.
    Cheers to you!
